Class A Boys

100 Meter Dash
Tyler Consolidated's got a good start and held the lead pretty much throughout. Fayetteville's Jonathan Gore overcame a poor start (he was still outside the top 4 at 50 meters) and nearly ran down Doak in the last few meters, but came up 0.01 short. Those two were over 0.3 ahead of the rest of the field. It was a great race for 3rd as the 3rd through 5th placers all rounded to the same time. My picks took a hit here as two of my predicted placers did not run the event and another pulled out of the final with injury after having the third best qualifying time.
RunWV's Current Score: 3 of 6.

200 Meter Dash
Tyler Consolidated's Alex Doak blew away the field. He got a good start, had the lead coming out of the turn by a couple steps, and then just drove away from the field in the homestretch to win by over 0.7 seconds. Fayetteville's Jonathan Gore took a solid 2nd.
RunWV's Current Score: 8 of 12.

400 Meter Dash
Clay-Battelle's Nathan Tolley was well back at 100 Meters but started moving on the backstretch. Midway through the final turn, he pulled even with Tyler Consolidated's Alex Doak and then pulled away down the stretch to win by almost 0.8 seconds in a Class A State Meet Record 49.57 seconds. Doak was the only other runner under 51 seconds, and Doddridge's Zach Cottrill was the only other one under 52 seconds. One of my predicted placers pulled out of the event with injury.
RunWV's Current Score: 13 of 18.

800 Meter Run
There was no surprise here as Buffalo's Dylan Rich blew away the field and crushed the Class A State Meet Record with a 1:56.69, which also gives him the 10th Best All-Time Class A-AA State Meet Performance. Teammate Isaiah Robinson was the only one to go with him on the first lap as they came through in 58 seconds. There was a collision in the pack just after the start of the 2nd lap that resulted in one runner going down and not being able to finish the race. On the 2nd lap, particularly the last 200 meters, Rich ran away from Robinson, and Robinson easily outdistanced the rest of the field. Rich ended up winning by nearly 5 seconds, and Robinon was almost 2 seconds ahead of everyone else with a 2:01.47. Only Tucker's Ian Nichols came through under 2:04 among the rest of the field. He came from 6th to 3rd in the final stretch. The front 6 finished over 4 seconds ahead of the rest of the field.
RunWV's Current Score: 18 of 24.

1600 Meter Run
Buffalo's Dylan Rich took the lead early and led the field through a very fast first lap in 61 seconds. Doddridge's Caleb Moore and Wirt's Logan Kerby clocked 1:03's to hold 2nd and 3rd after a lap. Williamstown's Chandler Antill, Doddridge's Matt Zorn, and Charleston Catholic's Marcus Black rounded out the top 6, all in 64. On the 2nd lap, the pace obviously slowed, but Rich extended his lead a bit to 3 seconds over Moore with Rich hitting a 2:10 and Moore a 2:13. St. Marys' Jordan Whitehair moved up into the 3rd position at 2:15 with Kerby and Black matching that time in 4th and 5th. Zorn was in 6th at 2:16. There wer 9 that were at 2:18 or better. On the 3rd lap, Rich extended his lead to 8 seconds, coming through in 3:18. Moore and Whitehair traded spots a couple times with Moore holding the lead at the line but both coming throug at 3:25. Black and Kerby were side by side with Black having the slightest edge with both at 3:28. Zorn was in 6th at 3:29. On the final lap, Rich held his 7 second advantage and finished in 4:23.19, just 0.01 off his State Meet Record from a year ago. Whitehair was able to outdistance Moore on the final lap by almost 2 seconds. Whitehair clocked a 4:30.09 and Moore a 4:32.05. There was a great race for 4th over the last 125 meters with Kerby holding the spot with 100 meters to go, then Black taking it, then Zorn taking it, and then Black taking it back in the last few meters. Black got the 4th spot at 4:36.70. Teammate Caden McClanahan moved up late into the 5th position at 4:36.81, and Zorn got the 6th at 4:36.93. So, the top 6 were under 4:37. The top 7 were under 4:39. Only one other runner was under 4:50.
RunWV's Current Score: 23 of 30.

St. Marys' Jordan Whitehair, Doddridge's Matt Zorn and Buffalo's Hayden Harrison were right there at 1:11. Things remained close through two laps with Moore just a step ahead of Rich at 2:23. Black was next through at 2:24 with Whitehair and Zorn at 2:25. Harrison remained in 6th at 2:27. Things stayed pretty close on lap 3 with Moore less than a step ahead of Rich with both hitting 3:36. Black was in 3rd, just ahead of Whitehair with both at 3:38. Zorn was in 5th at 3:40. Doddridge's Brandon Lively had moved into 6th at 3:42. At the 1600 meter mark, Rich had moved back to the front, coming through in 4:51 to Moore's 4:52. Whitehair had moved back into 3rd at 4:53 with Black at 4:54. Zorn was gaining control of 5th at 4:57. Harrison had moved back into 6th at 5:01. On lap five, Rich took control of the race, moving to a 5 second lead at 6:03. Zorn and Harrison easily held onto their spots.
RunWV's Current Score: 29 of 36.

Clay-Battelle and Doddridge were the only other teams under 1:36, with Doddridge scoring their 3rd place finish from the 1st heat.
RunWV's Current Score: 46 of 60.

4x400 Meter Relay
Doddridge took the lead on the first leg. Doddridge continued to lead through two legs, and Williamstown had moved up to 2nd. Through three legs, it was still Doddridge in the lead, but Williamstown had closed. Charleston Catholic was moving up as well. On the final leg though, Williamstown took the lead on the backstretch and pulled away for the win on the 51.5 leg of Jason Lockhart. Tucker scored a 2nd place finish from the 1st heat. The Williamstown crew of Jarric Hoskins, Marshall Williams, Kohen Mossor, and Jason Lockhart took the win by almost 1.5 seconds over Tucker with their 3:35.22. Doddridge's group of Zach Cottrill, Dillon Muhly-Alexander, Dyllon Hayes, and Daniel Plaugher took the title in 1:00.24, winning by 1.1 seconds over Greenbrier West, who pulled off a 2nd place finish from the 3rd heat. High Jump
Gilmer's Anthony Aviles cleared 6'9 to break his own Class A State Meet Record. That performance combined with past State Meet Performances gives him the 5th Best All-Time State Meet Performance and the 2nd Best All-Time Class A-AA State Meet Performance. No one else went higher than 6'0 with only Doddridge's Dillon Muhly-Alexander and Greenbrier West's Cory Cox topping that height.
RunWV's Current Score: 66 of 84.

Pole Vault
Tyler Consolidated's Hunter LeMasters cleared 13'10 to take the title. That height gives him the 10th Best All-Time Class A-AA State Meet Performance. Only 3 vaulters in total cleared more than 11'6 with Williamstown's Mitchell Goertler getting 13'0 and Doddridge's Dyllon Hayes getting 12'6.
RunWV's Current Score: 72 of 90.

Long Jump
Fayetteville's Jonathan Gore sailed 21'11.25 to get the win by 10 inches. That distance stands as the 9th Best All-Time Class A-AA State Meet Performance. Doddridge's Dillon Muhly-Alexander joined him over 21' with a leap of 21'1.25. East Hardy's Joshua Parker had a leap of 20'10 for 3rd, a leap that reportedly would have been 22+, but he fell backwards. St. Marys' Dylan Fetty and Madonna's Marcello Biondillo also topped 20'. One of my predicted placers did not jump.
RunWV's Current Score: 76 of 96.

Shot Put
Valley Wetzel's Spencer Mason took the event by over 3' with his winning throw of 51'2.50. Among the rest of the field, only Williamstown's Evan Smith topped 45' with his throw of 47'11.75. 3rd through 5th was decided by just 8 inches.

RunWV's Current Score: 85 of 108.

The final score of 85 of 108 means that 78.7 % of the people picked to place did indeed place. Congratulations to those that proved me wrong.
